Faith and Parenting

Join the Rev. Samantha Smith in Lent to explore faith and parenting in today's society. We will be reading and discussing Bless This Mess by the Rev. Molly Baskette and Ellen O'Donnell to help facilitate discussion and community. You can find it on Amazon in paper and digital formats. Please use your Amazon Smile page to purchase it and give back to St. Mark's Episcopal Church at the same time! Email Rev. Sam for more information.

Our Goal

Our goal is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for your baby or toddler during services and church sponsored events. All caregivers have undergone training, background checks, and are certified in the Safeguarding God's Children course. We help children develop a love for God through praise, prayer, and Bible stories.

Each time you bring your child to the nursery, you will be asked to sign in. If the staff needs to contact you at any time, a text message will be sent to your cell phone. Children are signed in and out by their parents and, for the safety of the child, will only be released to a parent.

Children & Families Programming

At St. Mark's we aim to assist families in introducing their kids to Jesus Christ, to empower parents with the tools to talk to their kids about faith, to plant the seed of God's Word into their hearts, to model the love of Jesus through a team of caring volunteers, and to nurture and shepherd them into a lasting relationship with God.

Opportunities include family events, Children's Chapel, Choristers, and Vacation Bible School.

SMYG & SMYC

St. Mark's Youth Group (SMYG) is a growing, diverse and lively group of students, grades 6 through 12, who like to learn, worship and have fun. We have enriched our lives together through annual mission trips, both locally and abroad, and by participating in service projects and retreats.

St. Mark's Youth Chorale (SMYC) is new to St. Mark's and designed for students in grades 7 through 12. The Youth Chorale will sing once a month at morning service, and for special holidays. Please see Joseph Rawley for further details.

Sunday Evenings during the School Year

SMYC will meet weekly in the Youth Room from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

SMYG meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Both groups -- Jr. High and Sr. High --  eat dinner together at 6 p.m. in the Flex Space (please let Alex Hillis know if you have dietary restrictions). At 6:30 p.m., Jr. High and Sr. High will break out into groups in the Youth Room and Reeder Gym. We often play games, so tennis shoes and comfortable clothing is suggested.

Happening

Happening is a weekend event for Sr. High students (grades nine through twelve). It is sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and does not propose a new type of spirituality but provides a place where one's spirituality may be developed, nourished, lived, and shared in fellowship with Christians willing to dedicate their lives to God in an ongoing manner. Happening attendees listen to thought-provoking and challenging talks given by members of the staff and clergy followed by discussion in small groups. Happening takes place at Camp Allen three times a year and one time at various churches in our diocese.

Y.E.S.

Youth Encounter Spirit is for Jr. High students in grades six through eight. The focus is on "who Christ is." Y.E.S. helps foster a clearer appreciation of self, richer relationships with others, and a deeper relationship with Jesus. It takes place at Camp Allen three times a year and one time at various churches in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.
