Youth Formation at St. Mark’s has many pieces. Some students participate in all of them while others focus on one or two opportunities. Either way, we are a group that is passionate about coming together to experience the living Christ through fellowship, service and fun!
Youth Group (a.k.a. SMYG) The Youth Group is a growing, diverse and lively group of intelligent and playful students who like to learn, worship and have fun together. They serve through an annual mission trip, both locally and abroad, participate in service projects, and they enrich their lives together on retreats. All sixth through twelfth grade students are welcome.
Sunday Night SMYG Sr. High Youth Group meets Sundays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by Jr. High Youth Group from 6 to 8 p.m. Both groups eat together at 6 p.m. in the Cafeteria. Please wear comfortable clothes. We often play games, so tennis shoes are suggested, though not required. If your child has dietary restrictions, please let Alex know so arrangements can be made.
SMYG Mid-week This opportunity could be anything from grabbing a coffee, to ice cream, to extended office hours, to bowling… the possibilities are endless!
Other SMYG Activities Students can participate in a Jr. High or Sr. High Retreat each semester. There will also be an opportunity to participate in a service project each month.
Sunday Morning Opportunities Sixth and Seventh graders will assist as leaders in the new “Kid Min” children’s program. Click here to volunteer. Eighth Grade Confirmation class meets at 10:10 a.m. in the Office Parlor until May 7. The Confirmation service is on May 21 at 9 a.m. Click here for more information about Confirmation. Members of the parish aged third grade and older may serve as Acolytes. They assist the clergy in leading the opening procession, presenting the Gospel Book for reading, and preparing the altar rails prior to communion. Click here for more information.
Happening A Happening weekend is for ninth through twelfth grade students and can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It does not propose a new type of spirituality but provides a place where one’s spirituality may be developed, nourished, lived, and shared in fellowship with Christians willing to dedicate their lives to God in an ongoing manner. Those attending Happening listen to thought-provoking and challenging talks given by members of the staff and clergy. These talks are designed to help the Happeners get to know God. After each talk, the opportunity is given for questions and discussion in small groups. Happening takes place at Camp Allen three times a year and one time at various churches in the Diocese of Texas. Click here for more information and to register.
Y.E.S. Youth Encounter Spirit (Y.E.S.) is for 6th-8th grade youth. The focus of Y.E.S. is on “who Christ is.” Y.E.S. helps foster a clearer appreciation of self, richer relationships with others, and a deeper experience with Jesus. Y.E.S. takes place at Camp Allen three times a year and one time at various churches in the Diocese of Texas. Click here for more information and to register.
