In early October we celebrate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals and the environment. We invite all of the St. Mark’s community and our neighbors to bring their pets for a short liturgy and individual pet blessings by the clergy. Our annual Pet Blessing includes hot dogs and refreshments. Please bring your pet on a leash or in a carrier.
In conjunction with our Pet Blessing, we are supporting AniMeals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels discovered about 10 years ago that over 600 of the senior citizens they serve have a cat or dog they rely upon for companionship — a number of people in the program were sharing the meal they received with their pet. The AniMeals program was created, and has grown to where they distribute nearly 10,000 pounds of kibble every month.
Please know that your help is needed to not only feed these cats and dogs, but to help seniors continue in these vital relationships. Take you sacks of food to 3202 San Jacinto St., Houston, TX 77004. Or contact Heather Mann at 713.533.4936. St. Francis would consider this a blessing.
